Mark your calendars for the 2011 Jacksonville Jazz Festival held May 26-29, 2011 over Memorial Day Weekend. Friday night will mark the beginning of FREE jazz performances on multiple stages in the heart of downtown Jacksonville including Natalie Cole, the Gentlemen of the Night featuring Paul Taylor, Marion Meadows and Warren Hill, John Pizzarelli, Joey Calderazzo and many more! The Wine Down Brew Town Tasting Experience and the Art in the Heart Downtown juried art show and sale will also be open along with jazz exhibits and displays to start the festival weekend.

Jacksonville Jazz Piano Competition

Presented by the City of Jacksonville and Keyboard Connection Pianos & Organs, the Jacksonville Jazz Piano Competition has been a tradition for more than 20 years. Five finalists, chosen by a selection committee through "blind" judging, will compete for the honor of this award, a cash prize and the chance to perform during the 2011 Jacksonville Jazz Festival.

The City of Jacksonville and the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra have decided to cancel Starry Nights featuring The Four Tops scheduled for this Saturday, May 21. The decision was made due to low ticket sales leading up to this concert.

Tickets will be refunded at their original purchase price. If purchased through the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra Box Office, call 354-5547. For those tickets purchased through Jacksonville.com’s Daily Deal, email dailydeals@jacksonville.com.

On Oct. 10 at 10 a.m., the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department will conduct its first-ever “Sea of Blue” Fallen Firefighter Memorial March. Hundreds of off-duty firefighters in dress uniform will gather near the foot of South Hogan Street, adjacent to The Jacksonville Landing, to participate in this commemorative event to honor local firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

On “Master’s Friday”, City officials and community leaders will celebrate Blue Cypress Golf Course’s grand re-opening at 10 a.m. The 9-hole golf course is in the heart of Blue Cypress Park in the Arlington area. The renovations include rebuilt greens, tee boxes and fairways, an enhanced and lengthened driving range and a new 3,500 square-foot practice green. This event is open to the media.

In accordance with Section 15.108 (Annual continuing education and training on Sunshine Law requirements), Ordinance Code: Notice is hereby given that the Office of Ethics, Compliance, and Oversight, with the assistance of the Office of General Counsel and the Director of Jacksonville City Council, will provide the fourth and final hour of annual Mandatory Training on state ethics Laws. Training will include gifts and other current ethics topics.
