Department of Investigation and Homeland Security

    • Crimes Against Property
      • Burglary Unit investigates all business and residential burglaries as well as thefts over a certain dollars amount.
      • Crime Scene Unit photographs and processes crime scenes for latent fingerprints and other evidence to identify suspects.
      • Economic Crimes Unit investigates forgeries, frauds including internet fraud, bank fraud, credit card fraud, identity theft, con games and other economic crimes.
      • Forensic Artist provides composite drawings, reconstructive sculptures of unidentified skeletal remains and demonstrative evidence including court charts, graphs and three dimensional models.
      • Latent Print Unit processes evidence for latent fingerprints using physical and chemical processes to develop and enhance the prints.
      • Photo Lab processes, prints and maintains all crime scene photos and provides departmental portrait and identification photography, court enlargements, and photographs of Sheriff's Office events.
      • Polygraph Unit administers polygraph examinations to police applicants, suspects, victims, and witnesses involved in criminal investigations.
    • Crimes Against Persons
      • Auto Theft Unit investigates auto thefts, thefts of marine craft, all terrain vehicles, motorcycles and aircraft.
      • Family Violence/Child Abuse Unit investigates child abuse, child neglect, domestic violence, elderly abuse, elderly neglect and financial exploitation of the elderly.
      • Fugitive Unit transports inmates for legal proceedings, wanted suspects from other jurisdictions to face local charges,and coordinates the extradition of fugitives arrested locally for other jurisdictions.
      • Homicide Unit investigates murder, manslaughter, suicide, accidental death, in-custody deaths and suspicious deaths.  
      • Missing Persons Unit investigates reports of missing juveniles and missing adults involving foul play. 
      • Robbery Unit investigates armed robbery, unarmed robbery, home-invasion robbery, carjacking and robbery by sudden snatching.
      • Sex Crimes Unit investigates sexual assaults, child pornography and lewd and lascivious acts.
      • Traffic Homicide Unit investigates traffic crashes resulting in a fatality and hit and run crashes with serious bodily injury.
      • Victim Services Coordinator provides assistance to all crime victims, witnesses and survivors.

Department of Police Services

  • Budget and Management has the responsibility for the administrative functions of the Sheriff's Office, including budgeting, management and accounting.
  • Police Services Division's primary purpose is to manage the critical support functions for all personnel employed by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office and other members within the community.
    • Records and Communications
      • Central Records incorporates five multi-functional integrated units, Records, Public Counter, Warrants Input, Data Input and Identification/AFIS.  
      • Communications Section primary function is to answer citizen calls for service on 9-1-1 or the police non-emergency number (904-630-0500).
      • Court Security has a primary responsibility to provide security for all courtrooms, judges chambers, and to maintain security of all inmates from the sallyport of the courthouse to the individual courtrooms and their return to the sally port.
    • Logistics and General Support
      • Alarm Office administers the application and issuance of alarm registration decals as required by the City of Jacksonville Municipal Code.

      • Civil Process Unit is responsible for receiving, processing, serving and returning civil process directed to the Sheriff's Office from jurisdictions both inside and outside the State of Florida and from foreign jurisdictions.

  • Jails - The primary function of the Jails Division is to contribute to the overall level of public safety through the incarceration of pretrial inmates.
  • Prisons - Utilizes sentenced prisoners to give back to the Jacksonville community while positively impacting the recidivism rate of our prisoners.
