Since 2004, the
Federal Highway Administration (FHWA)
has prioritized resources and technical assistance to states and cities that exhibit the highest pedestrian and bicycle fatalities and/or fatality rates. Through this
Focused Approach to Safety
, the state of Florida was designated as a Focus State, and the City of Jacksonville was designated a Focus City. In 2021, these designations were adjusted, as detailed in a
USDOT memo
, to include Focus States and Focus MPO/Regions. Currently, Florida remains a Focus State, and Jacksonville is located within a designated Focus MPO/Region (North Florida Transportation Planning Organization region).

Signal Four Analytics
provides an interactive dashboard and mapping tool for bike-ped crashes, derived from Florida’s statutory custodian of records, the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV).
The Florida Department of Transportation's (FDOT)
ConnectPed mapping system
allows the public to view reported bicycle and pedestrian crashes, crash typing, as well as keyhole lanes, transit stops, and a myriad of other GIS layers. The
